In terms of youth culture happenings, besides the Regeneración events, 1990s Highland Park was the site of a ton of ditching parties, raves, and also plenty of Rock Angelino tocadas. Here’s a flyer for a 1994 tocada put on by Fulanitos with DJ de rock en español and Piel Estraviada (¿?) and Lithyum. The flyer also features cameos by MTVs infamous characters, Beavis and Butthead. ???? Fulanitos were a crew/squad/group of Rock Angelino teenage enthusiasts who decided to put on shows at (mostly) warehouses in North East L.A. and East L.A. Why? Due to the scarcity of tocadas/gigs between 1992 1994, they took it upon themselves to produce shows in different L.A. neighborhoods, so they could see emerging L.A. bands live and direct. Among the “ephemeral forums” that Fulanitos used for shows was the now mythical “Space” or a warehouse in Highland Park on the intersection of N. Figueroa St. and S. Ave 58 that was used for a multitude of genres for shows. This warehouse was later leased by Zack de Rocha (form Rage Against the Machine) and eventually transformed into the Regeneración / Public Resource Center. As the prolific food critic Javier Cabral (@theglutster) advocates, let’s #keephighlandparkpaisa as is has long been. ????: shared by @marcosalexestrada #fulanitos #rockangelino #rocklatino #rockenespañol #losangeles #highlandpark #1994 #rockarchivoLA
