- While I loathe to toot my own horn in this IG, this flyer is from the time I put together a crazy transnational set of dates that required a ton of coordination (and lacked $$$) between Los Angeles, Tijuana, and Chicago to get Almalafa (Tijuana) and Viernes 13 (South Gate) to play in the first ever Ska fest in Chi-town in 2002! These was both of the band’s first every performance in Chicago.
I remember this being a solid show in the heart of Mexican Chicago, La Villita/Little Village. The Black Hole served as at the venue for some of the most underground music genres as the punk Southkore collective held the Latino Punk Fest at the Black Hole in the latter years.
We were able to create a music bridge, particularly with ska bands in the mid-2000s as Las 15 Letras, Chencha Berrinches, Tokadiscos and others also visited Chicago and played with the emerging Chi-town bands during these years. ???? —@implacable
