Here’s one of my most cherished posters y hoy es su born day, so to speak. August 19, 1995. This is for the Big Top Locos II Festival that was produced by Culture Clash at the Universal Auditorium. The line-up included Las Victimas del Dr. Cerebro, Trulio Disgracias (which was a sort of Fishbone side project), Youth Brigade, Todos Tus Muertos, Tijuana No! Los Olvidados, and Yeska. VGS were a no show. But Ofelia Medina and everyones tío, Edward James Olmos showed up to MC the event. The poster was created in the workshop of Jimmy “TAZ” Evans, with the supposed collaboration of Mexican American artist Rolo Castillo. Pero que sé yo. The poster itself went for $10 bucks back then. But what is significant, besides the line-up (que al final ni se llenó el anfiteatro) is that this festival was part of the countless actions organized in the wake of Prop. 187 and the EZLN uprising in Southern California, that sprung up in Los Ángeles to counter the xenophobic and racist policies imposed in California and the repressive government in Mexico. “All Ages, All Races, All Welcome, All Marcos!” #bigtoplocos #cultureclash #victimasdeldrcerebro #todostusmuertos #TijuanaNo #Yeska #LosOlvidados #youthbrigade #universalamphiteather #1995 #rockarchivoLA
