- Here’s a flyer of the summer 2018 for a tocada in “Azuza” produced by Pure Underground. It featured Mexico’s Salón Victoria, along with South Gate’s Viernes 13,East Los Ekolekua, La Chaparralta, and then bands from Riverside/IE: Red Store Bums, Rudo Movimiento, Chanchalso 78, and Los Arambula from the SFV.
For historians, we try to create some guidelines to have a more comprehensive study of the past. able to study the past.
To create a more complete analysis of the sources (in the case of this IG account the flyers, videos, photos) and then connect the sources and events with the larger socio-economic events/conditions of the time, we to examine sources and events from an extended historical distance. This is not an absolute standard, but for the analysis of the Latina/o/x Youth Cultures discussed in this joint, it is ten year period, give or take. That is why you are starting to see flyers from 2008 posted.
If we remember 2008-2010 were extremely difficult years as the result of the Great Recession in which millions of people lost their jobs and their homes.
Yet, these years were also a period of heighten activity for the ska, skacore scene(s) that began sprouting away from central LÁ and into the Southern California suburbs and exurbs: The San Fernando Valley, The East San Gabriel Valley, and The Inland Empire, which probably explains the geographical variety of the bands included in this show.
What do you remember about the shows at this time (2007-2010)?
