- Check this archival photo treasure of the early South East Los Angeles skacore/punk scene! This contact sheet for photos taken by @mureea at a Lynwood High School Gig in 1999. The show featured Chencha Berrinches (with its first line-up with darky-gothic Javier Oviedo as the singer), Schizm & Viernes 13. In some of these photos one can also see the Schizm iconic bass cabinet, which due to its size and quality was used by many of the SELA bassists. Also, Viernes 13’s drum set with a double drum bass, which Mikey favored back then. These features denote the rich variety of music and rhythm, and also stylistic influences that proved the fertile ground for the LÁ ska sound for decades to come.
Thanks @mureea so much for sharing these fragments of SELA music history!
