Bogart's Nightclub in Long Beach had an extensive history that intersects with Rock Angelino. It.began as a disco joint in the 1970s and by the late 1989s, Bogart's switched its format to become one of the first "alternative rock" clubs in the Long Beach/North Orange County area. A score of punk and grunge bands like Faith No More, The Weirdos, Stone Temple Pilota, Jesus Lizard, Rocket from The Crypt, firehouse and yes, Nirvana played there between 1987 and until its closing in late 1993. Actually, you can check out a video of one of Nirvana's performances a Bogart's on YouTube. By 1992 Bogart's became one of the first rock venues to book Rock Angelino bands in Southern California on a constant basis. This was probably due to the booker being Stephen Zepeda, who likely was a Latino that became familiar with Rock en Español. Some of earliest Rock Angelino bands such as Cero Maldad, Purpura, Prophecy, La Razzza that played Rock Urbano appeared in the Bogart's 1992/1993 monthly calendars. In addition, there's this flyer announcing the advent of "Alternative Rock in Spanish" at Bogart's with performance by Cábula. Only $5 c/f...o sea Con Flyer, no Con Safos. Bogart's closed down for good in late 1993 and according to @estefany is now a supermarket. ???? ????: Chino Navarro de Cábula ¡Gracias por compartir! #bogarts #longbeach #cabula #rockenespañol #rockangelino #1993 #rockarchivoLA
