- This is for one of the first Molotov concerts in Southern California in 1998. This concert took place at The Vault in Pomona. Located in the southern east corner of L.A. county Pomona has long been the crossroads between LA, the Inland Empire and Orange County. Yet, for most it is not a well-known location. The very stylized map indicates this. There are not local landmarks in the Pomona Arts Colony.
The map mainly concentrates on the freeways that surround Pomona and would allow prospective concert-goers to locate Pomona in relation to the freeways that they could travel on to reach the venue. Hence, rather than expecting people from Pomona to attend this concert, the producer likely sought to entice people from Los Angeles and the Inland empire to attend this show. This is also evident in the selection of the opening bands. Viva Malpache is announced as being from Los Angeles, while Leyenda is listed from the Inland Empire.
This map highlights what historian Eric Avila and others define as “the folklore of the freeway.” One can not imagine Los Angeles without its freeways, we are fully aware of the possibilities of the freeways (to get to far places), but also the problems of the LA as a freeway metropolis, which is smog and traffic! ????: @rocksinfronteras ¡Gracias por compartir!
