While this flyer has been shared before in this account, since it's the end of January it is worth reposting and re-examining. This show at "the Mirror" featuring Eclipse & Los Invisibles (yes, there's a typo there) took place in January 13, 1990. That was 28 years ago! This is significant to several reasons, among them: it allows us to chart out and understand how long this overarching genre mis-named as "rock en español" (but that's a debate for another day) has been present in Los Angeles.  In addition, this tocada happened in the city of Bell, thus highlight how important "the venues" be it salones, pizzerias, veteran's halls, funerarias (yes, gigs have happened at mortuaries), warehouses, and backyards in the cities we now know as South East L.A.  The examination of these shows in the last third of the 20th Century allow us to examine how Latina/o youth made claims for public space in Los Angeles and began to articulate translational notions of participatory citizenship amidst demographic shifts in S.E.L.A. from being white-working class cities, into Latina/o communities, that fomented the development and/or were parallel of other 1990s/2000s youth culture scenes such as raves, punk, ska, and metal gigs. Y ya si nos ponemos a pensar, hasta todos los bailes de banda y corrido underground throughout South and South East L.A.
