- Flyer for one of the first (Latino) Ska Fests in Greater LA: The all ages Ska Fest 98 which featured Los Olvidados, Las 15 Letras, Los Dead Panchos (Tijuana), Chencha Berrinches, Los 7 Gatos Negros. The unbilled opening band for this fest was early version of Viernes 13 (without their singer JP). This festival was held at the Vault in Downtown Pomona. Historian Matt García argues that starting in the late 1950s the youth people have gravitated around the venues in El Monte, Pomona and other outer L.A. County suburbs where they took part in cross-cultural exchanges in the dance floor or in the case of ska/punk/rock shows, the mosh pit. This makes us understand that progressive and creative cultural forces do not always emanate from the city, but can also come from ethnic Mexican suburban communities.
