- 1990s issues of La Banda Elástica Magazine.
La Banda Elástica began to published in the early 1990s and due to its popularity, quickly transformed itself from a photocopied ‘zine of one 100 run into a glossy magazine of about 20,000 copies per issue. The magazine based in Long Beach, California covered the, then-emerging rock Latina/o scene in the U.S. and Latin America.
In its November 1995 issue, Spin Magazine named LBE as one of “the seven elements in the future of rock.” Spin also defined the magazine published by Emilio Morales and María Madrigal as having “an aesthetic of dislocation and pastiche, fitting both of its Los Angeles hometown—where Latin America has crash-landed into Hollywood— and for the transnational scene it covers, rock en español.” In addition to Morales exquisite texts and graphic design and Madrigal’s superb photography, throughout its printed run, the magazine had a plethora of talented writers and photographers, among them Enrique Blanc, Enrique Lopetegui, Juan Data, Octavio Hernández, Carlos Guetta, Sergio Burstein just to name a few, but the contributors list is quite extensive. LBE has now morphed into an online publication, both posting articles on its site and also launching La Banda Elástica radio with a ton of shows produced and broadcasted from Highland Park in LÁ. ¿Quien tiene sus revistas de colección de La Banda Elastica? ???????????? #labandaelastica #rocklatino #rockangelino #losangeles #1990s #rockarchivoLA
