- What else can be said about Go Betty Go but to restate the obvious?
They have been definitely trailblazers during their more than 15-year presence in the LÁ scene. Besides the obvious (yes, they were girls and yes, they could rock) one the most significant qualities of GBG was their eagerness and commitment to play shows within the many different and divergent music scenes and in a way bridging these often parallel, parallel music universes.
This is one of their early promo photos. One can imagine the location it is on Figueroa, close to Mr T’s Bowl, that scruffy joint that hosted some fierce punk/ska shows in the 2000s and where Go Betty Go Played many of their early shows and generated such buzz that even Gustavo Santaolalla went to check them out there.
This Mr. T’s Bowl of the 1990s and 2000s is NOT to be confused with that “renovated” hipster craft cocktail serving spot that now sits in that same point, but that merely offers up a fictional tale of a luxurious bowling alley.
