PUYA is probably one the most unique bands to have emerged from Puerto Rico as they combined salsa and metal, congas and distorted massive guitar riffs, horns and double bass drums all in one song! In 1997 the band relocated to Los Ángeles and quickly became part of the Rock Angelino/Chicano scene playing alongside other emerging and establish bands such as Ozomatli, Yeska, Quetzal, Psychotic Aztecs, Aztlan Underground, Pastilla, Los Olvidados, Las 15 Letras, Rice & Beands and many others. IN 1998 PUYA becomes one of the first bands of the era to release an album with a major label, MCA Records. This album “Fundamental” is produced by Gustavo Santaolalla. ¡Na más!. Here’s a flyer announcing several of their shows during their LÁ residence in the summer of 1997. In the next years PUYA would go on to tour both in the Watcha Tour and The Ozzfest.
