Here’s Al Borde’s cover dedicated to Salón Victoria in 2005. Al Borde was a pioneer publication that was founded by Alicia Monsalve and Edgardoo Ochoa in 1997. Since its inception Al Borde sought to publish a new edition every other week to cover all different styles within what came to be known as rock en español (which is really an umbrella term for Latina/o-Latin American Contemporary Music). For several years, Al Borde was the most distributed and accessible rock en español/youth culture publication in Southern California.
Besides Alicia and Edgardo there were many other writers and collaborators who work was regularly published in Al Borde. I briefly served as Al Borde editor in 2000 and 2001, while Jesús “Pelos” Olvera became the longest serving editor for the newspaper throughout much of the 2000s until the publication transitioned into the ether….I mean online. Yes, that. Many of the old articles are still available in the current Al Borde site that is administer by El Clasificado. Sadly, the PDF archives seem not to be available online. @implacable
