Here’s a flyer from the O.G. Our House in Lynwood for a 2001 show with Media Blitz, Civet, No Exit, Salivate and Substance A. You might have noticed the “Our House Productions” moniker in the flyer for shows a The Allen Theater in South Gate. While one might think that the title Our House was a reference to a mythological place that existed in make-believe. But that is far from it. Our House existed. Yes, there was once an actual House in Lynwood, first envision as a youth community center of sorts. There were punk, metal, then shows for a then emerging new genre ska. Every weekend! All for people between 13 and 18 only! *Well, they did let a few of us older folks in every once in a while.* The site itself was a former house that would get packed, and also sweaty hot. Most South East L.A. bands played in this first iteration of Our House between 2000 and 2002 when the site closed and the Our House Team subsequently moved to The Allen Theater in South Gate. Currently the former Our House is an empty lot in front of Yvonne Burke-John D. Ham Park in Lynwood. There are definitely gaps in this Our House historical account, so please do share what you know/remember about Our House in Lynwood. Flyer shared by @hija_de_mi_mama who played that night!
