According to Jamaican scholar Stuart Hall, culture does not only consist of what the educated élites happen to fancy, such as classical music or the fine arts. Popular Culture is simply, “experience lived, experience interpreted, experience defined.” Films, rock and roll, punk, reggae, ska, hip-hop, cumbia and yes also, banda, and corridos can tell us things about the world that more traditional studies of politics or economics alone could not. Hence it is critical and necessary to study culture and cultural productions to understand people and societies in the past and the present. Check out a recent article on the legacy of Stuart Hall and Cultural Studies by Hua Hsu in the New Dorker, eeerrr that would be the New Yorker Magazine. #stuarthall #culturalstudies #estudiosculturales #rockarchivo
