Rock Latino in Film: “Star Maps” represented the first (somewhat) mainstream Hollywood film to feature a mostly Rock Latino soundtrack. The film directed by the Boricua Miguel Artera enlisted Argentinian producer Gustavo Santaolalla and LA singer Lysa Flores to help with the song selections that included Control Machete, La Portuaria, Aterciopelados, Molotov, Juana Molina, Astrid Hadad, and King Changó and Lysa Flores repped for the U.S. based acts. Flores also stared in the film. Santaolalla went on to score a ton of films and win Oscars for its original scores on “Brokeback Mountain” (2005) and Alejandro González Iñárritu’s “Babel” (2006). Arteta recently directed Beatriz at Dinner with Salma Hayek. For her part, Lysa Flores released a new record entitled “It Hurts to Be Your Girl” in 2016 and continues to tour with Alice Bag.
