- By now most everyone who is a fan of Voodoo Glow Skulls has learned that Frank Casillas, the frontman and force behind the VGS has decided to leave the band he co-founded along with his brothers Eddie and Frank. Ever since their appearance in 1989 in Riverside, VGS have been trailblazers who managed to be part of both the Anglo punk scene and become quite influential in the U.S. Latina/o and Latin American Skapunk scene. For many of their fans, a Chicano-led band was a revelation and inspiration. This is a flyer of some of their early Baja California epic concerts: El Niño 1999 fest, in which VGS co-headlined with Buck-O-Nine and which took them on a three city (chaotic, yet fun AF) tour: Tijuana, Ensenada and Mexicali. The line-up featured some solid Baja bands like Tokadiscos, be-am, Los Alex, Mexican Jumpin’ Frijoles and Dead Panchos (organizers of the tour). In addition, also included LÁ bands such as Los Olvidados, Chencha Berrinches, and Las 15 Letras (not listed in this flyer). This would be one of the many times that VGS would share the bill with LÁ skacore, REE bands in SoCal and beyond. The remaining VGS members have announced that the band will continue performing, but Frank will be missed.
