This video is from an Illegal Interns segment (co-produced by Richard Estrada and Flavio Morales) that featured one of the first ever @chenchaberrinchesoficial performances and interview at a La Banda Elástica sponsored festival in South El Monte's Whittier Narrows in the summer of 1997.
At the time of this festival, that was a huge teenage following for emerging new Latina/o LÁ bands that moved beyond the more conventional rock-pop sounds present in Rock en Español and ventured into fusing more raw ska-punk beats such as Chencha Berrinches.
The band's appearance at the festival happened to be one of the first stage shows for the South Gate mexska band and their graduation from back yard shows.
After this festival, Chencha Berrinches’ recognition exploded among the SoCal youth for their riotous performances.
