This is footage shows some very young Hello Sea Horse! Members in their first visit to California in the fall of 2009.
They played at the Señor Fish in Little Tokyo which was in the same building that once housed the Atomic Café, a venue known as one of LÁ earlier pun rock venue and then in the 1990s as Troy Café, a venue where the Chicano Music scene intersected with the L.A. alternative scene ran by Sean Carrillo, Beck Hansen’s stepdad.
Actually, Beck would play some of his very first shows at Troy. By the late aughts, the site had become Señor Fish and while mostly functioned as a restaurant, it also hosted some solid “Latin Alternative” shows there until it’s permanent closing to give way to the building of the new Little Tokyo Metro Station.
This vid allows to connect and center the presence, legacy, and connections among different Latina/o/x bands across time and space.
This video was sort of a bonus documentary that released by Hello Sea Horse in their reissue of Bestia that came out in 2010 or so, and that is rather hard to get these days.
When was the first time you saw HSH?
