- This is one of the most intriguing maps I have found in a 1990s flyer. The map covers the whole back of the flyer for a Dark/Gótico tocada in South Central L.Á. While hand-drawn, the map is quite accurate in charting out the geographical coordinates as the north is in the direction to downtown from the Broadway and 59th street corner, which is directly contrasted by the signaling of the San Pedro/L.A. Harbor in the South.
The other topographical items in this map also highlight the significance of the major streets in this South L.A. section. Broadway, Slauson, and Gage, and of course the 110 Freeway, the gangsta freeway as Ice Cube calls it. What is most intriguing about this map is how accurate is it, yet it is also whimsical and almost surrealist with the L.A. skyline at the top as it is hinting that any point past those buildings is just plain earth.
These maps made sense of the city and the multitude of streets and neighborhoods for Young Latina/o immigrants and U.S. born Latinas/os who in attending these shows were likely for the first time traveling through the metropolis beyond their immediate community.
Ah y bueno, en este toquín darkkks se presentaron Coito, Humanoide Secta & Víacrusis. Enero 1994.
Which is the farthermost location that you have gone for a show/concert/gig/tocada? ?????????
