On the theme of Rock Angelino “One Hit Wonder” type of bands, there could be several acts easily fit this ominous category, but Kinder would certainly be one of these bands. The band emerged at about the same time as ¡Viva Malpache! Curanderos and Chencha Berrinches. The 1997 constellation of bands that reshaped the LA scene in the last years of the 20th century. Kinder’s quirky and imaginative performances, in which Carlos Barragán (MC Duba) wore some whimsical costumes, while the band generated tracks full of distortion and synths generated an instant buzz. So did Kinder’s self-produced shows in an eccentric storefront in Midcity, spaces that don’t quite appear as often due to the constant yuppification of L.Á. The buzz around Kinder was strong and soon they were asked to open up for Tijuana No! Molotov, and Hombres G. However, the band broke up immediately after this show, due to the usual “creative differences” among the very young band members. In the mid-2000s, Carlos and Gera (another Kinder member) came up with new project called Torino, in which they played Dada pop dance-kish music, but it did not capture the same attention as Kinder. This one of the few flyers that I have found featuring Kinder and it’s from a couple of summer shows 1998 at the Fais Do Do organized by ROCKOLA “an LA based Rock en Español Website.” #kinder #stigma #vivamalpache #leydehielo #sinsemilla #curanderos #faisdodo #midcity #rockangelino #rocklatino #indie #latinalternative #rocklatinoamericano #1998 #losangeles #rockarchivola
