Ticket for the last Watcha Tour at the Universal Amphitheatre in 2001. ????: @frecuenciasalteradas ¡gracias por compartir! • The Watcha Tour was most extensive Rock Latina/o tour that has been produced so far. Yet it is rather interesting that there is scant evidence (almost nothing) ephemera, memorabilia or even videos from these concerts. The Watcha tour was created by Kevin Lyman — the creator of Warped Tour— and Jorge Mondragron (the, then manager for Molotov and many other bands, who then transitioned into representing film starts like Gael García and Diego Luna). Hence, the Watcha was envisioned as the “Latino Warped Tour,” however it did not use the same type of festival setting and it was rather a tour in venue with seats, which really killed the vibe. Nonetheless, it had three editions from 1999 to 2001 and its intinerary included many of the large cities U.S. Watcha tour included most of the established Latin American acts such as: Molotov, Cafe Tacuba, La Ley, Juanes, Zurdok Control Machete, Illya Kuryaki, Puya, Bersuit, Chris Perez Band (yes, Selena’s widow) and many others. LA repped with bands such as Fishbone, Ozomatli, Union 13, ¡Viva Malpache! among others. There were compilation albums with tracks by participating bands for each annual Watcha Tour. • The Watcha Tour folded after the 2001 edition and another national summer festival of similar scope have yet to be attempted.
