This is the artwork for Las 15 Letras first ever demo recorded in 1994 at some odd hours late at night or close to dawn at the KPFK studios by Mark Torres. This was a true labor of love recording in times when recording a song with professional equipment was an expensive proposition. You will notice that the complete text is written in Spanish, which makes sense Las 15 Letras is a band that sung in Spanish and was known as a “Rock en Español” band. However, all of the Las 15 Letras members were actually second (or later) generation having been born and raised in Los Angeles, yet they kep themselves fluent and proficient in Spanish through listening to music, reading Spanish language books, and watching well Univision too. At the time Las 15 Letras came on the scene, they also became the first “Rock Angelino” band comprised fully by LA born Mexicans, this at a time most Rock Angelino bands were formed by Latina/o immigrants. The advent of Las 15 Letras within Rock Angelino also represented a moment of greater inclusivity as Latinas/os a born in the U.S. went from mere music fans, to also become musicians and cultural producers, thus infusing their own perspectives as U.S. born Latinas/os within the transnational Latin American music genre. The physical cassette was shared by @x_pogo64_x (thanks!) and it is now fully digitized. ¿Quien quiere el link para el audio? Slide into the DMs and send your email!
