- Based on my very extensive research (uy si!) October has historically been quite a busy month for tocadas. There are a ton of flyers for Rock Angelino, ska, punk, etc shows. Wonder why….???? JK! It’s Halloween time! This also added to October being a rather slow month for “mainstream music” as summer tours are done. Here’s a very cool flyer in copy and paste style that listed as a calendar all October tocadas in 1992 at Chinatown’s Hong Kong Low. The flyer also included the Jalogüin show. As an added featured, the flyer was likely photocopied with red ink! ????
There are too many bands to list, así que dale una buena revisada. All tocadas were only $7 bucks. Pero “no se aceptan borranchos, marihuanos y malvivientes,” which sounds like a tongue in cheek warning.
Check out the very detailed map, that hints at the importance of maps for the 1990s rockeros, many of them recent migrants who were able to traverse and get acquainted to the maze of streets and communities that is Los Ángeles by attending tocadas in ‘hoods like Chinatown.
